Masrour Barzani: IS is adapting themselves to new tactics and forms of terrorism

Masrour Barzani: “We have severed the Isis caliphate in at least three strategic areas: between Tal Afar and Mosul, Tal Afar and Sinjar, and Sinjar and Syria

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (K24)

Masrour Barzani, the security chief of the Kurdish regional government says that ISIS has lost vital control in Iraq and Syria.

Barzani whose forces led the operation along with the anti-IS coalition talked to Guardian about the achievements the Peshmerga had had in combating extrimisits.  “We have severed the Isis caliphate in at least three strategic areas: between Tal Afar and Mosul, Tal Afar and Sinjar, and Sinjar and Syria.”

Barzani warned that despite the loss that IS has endured in Iraq and Syria, they are gaining power elsewhere.

“Although Isis is no longer the same as it was in 2014, they still are capable of recovering if pressure is lifted on them,” said Barzani.

The security chief of the Kurdistan Regional government reiterated that IS is not only a threat to the Middle East but a danger for the whole world.

“They [IS] pose threats to us and the rest of the world. They still control vast areas, rule over millions of people and are expanding in other parts of the world like north Africa."

Barzani warned that the world should beware of the advances IS is making in war strategies.

"Isis may have lost conventional fighting capabilities, but they are adapting themselves to new tactics and forms of terrorism, such as what happened in  France,” siad Barzani.
