Barzani: 250 Islamic State militants killed in recent attacks

In his visit to the Peshmerga frontline, Masoud Barzani met with Peshmerga commanders of Bashiq, Nawaran, and Khazir front lines to closely observe the situation of the Peshmerga.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (K24) – During his visit to the Peshmerga frontline in Bashiq front on Saturday, Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, said that over 250 Islamic State (IS) militants have been killed in recent attacks.

In his visit to the Peshmerga frontline, Masoud Barzani met with Peshmerga commanders of Bashiq, Nawaran, and Khazir front lines to closely observe the situation of the Peshmerga forces who repelled multi-pronged IS attacks in the past few days.

“I am very saddened for the fallen Peshmerga, their martyrdom is a big loss for all of us.” Barzani said talking to the press who attended the meeting.

Barzani has also released a statement on Saturday on the recent victories of Peshmerga forces, stating that terrorists had failed to “bring down the Kurdistan on the lion’s den on Kurdistan flag day.”

“In 24-hour fighting, IS tried to attack Peshmerga forces with its best fighters, weapons and a big number of armored car bombs. But all these attacks have been repulsed by Peshmerga forces,” the statement added.

The recent attacks on Peshmerga forces by IS terrorists was the biggest attack that had been planned for more than a month, a Kurdistan Regional Presidency statement added.

Peshmerga forces repelled multiple coordinated Islamic State (IS) attacks in northern Nineveh province on Wednesday. In addition, Peshmerga forces killed more than 70 IS militants on Newaran, Bashiqa, Khazir, and Zerdik mountain frontlines, according to an online statement released by Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC).
