ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iraq’s capital Baghdad on Sunday experienced five blasts within a night, targeting liquor shops and civilians, according to top security sources.

According to Iraq’s Security Media Cell, an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a liquor shop in Baghdad on Sunday night, causing material damages to the store. The security forces were able to neutralize another bomb in the same area, according to the store.

Another IED targeted a liquor shop in the Dora neighborhood, southern Baghdad, on Sunday night, according to the security source, adding that the store suffered substantial material loss.

An employee’s car was stuck with a blast that exploded and result in material damages to the vehicle in the Al-Adl neighborhood in Baghdad, according to the source. The vehicle owner is a private company’s employee, the source added.

The Iraqi capital has recently witnessed increased blasts and bombings, especially targeting stores that sell alcoholic beverages. These attacks are said to be launched by Iranian-backed militias.

The western neighborhood of Baghdad, Al-A’amiriya, also witnessed a similar IED attack on Sunday, the source said, adding it had caused material damages to a store next to it.

The claim of responsibility has not been issued by any group so far.
