Erbil Governor leads efforts to support wheat farmers

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – In a meeting supervised by Erbil’s Governor Omed Khoshnaw, Erbil province has taken proactive steps to streamline the receipt and marketing of wheat from local farmers.

In a specially convened meeting attended by Deputy Governor Hemn Qadir and key stakeholders, discussions centered on enhancing mechanisms to support farmers and optimize wheat management processes for the upcoming harvest season.

According to a statement released by the Erbil governor's office, the meeting brought together officials from the Departments of Commerce and Agriculture, alongside representatives from the Erbil Silo and other pertinent bodies.

Governor Khoshnaw underscored the importance of meticulous preparations and measures to ensure the seamless receipt and marketing of wheat from farmers across Erbil province.

Expressing appreciation for the efforts of the previous year's high committee tasked with supervising the wheat management process, Governor Khoshnaw emphasized the need for the new committee to exceed past performance levels.

He stressed the principles of equality and justice in grain reception from farmers, underscoring the province's commitment to supporting its agricultural community.

In a significant development aimed at providing additional support to farmers in the Koya district, Governor Khoshnaw announced plans to establish a dedicated wheat receiving center. This initiative, set to be realized through collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Commerce, reflects the provincial government's commitment to facilitating agricultural activities and ensuring equitable access to resources.

The meeting also saw the re-appointment of Deputy Governor Hemn Qadir as the chairman of the high committee for receiving and marketing wheat farmers in Erbil province. Participants deliberated on various issues pertinent to the successful execution of the wheat management process, reaffirming their commitment to promoting agricultural sustainability and prosperity in the region.
