Erbil to Host Kurdistan-Qatar Joint Economic Forum in September

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region is set to host a joint economic forum with the State of Qatar this September, as announced by Mohammed Shukri, Chairman of the Kurdistan Board of Investment.

This significant event coincides with the opening of the Qatari consulate in Erbil, marking a new chapter in the economic and diplomatic relations between the Kurdistan Region and Qatar.

Shukri highlighted the importance of the Qatari consulate, emphasizing Qatar’s influential role in the international economy and its potential investments in the Kurdistan Region.

The forum, decided upon during a meeting between Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Qatari Prime Minister during the Davos Summit, will feature participation from merchants and investors from both regions.

“The forum will provide numerous investment opportunities in various fields such as industry, tourism, trade, health, agriculture, and education,” Shukri stated.

He added that preparations are already underway to ensure the smooth implementation of investment projects, with the KRG committed to offering full support to Qatari investors.

At the inauguration of the Qatari consulate in Erbil, Prime Minister Barzani reiterated the KRG’s commitment to facilitating investments.

He expressed hope that the consulate’s opening would mark the beginning of stronger ties and more robust economic cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and Qatar.

“The Kurdistan Region and Qatar have good relations. Senior Qatari officials have visited the Kurdistan Region in the past, and we have also visited the State of Qatar,” Prime Minister Barzani said.

He also noted that they have great respect for the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and emphasized the desire to strengthen bilateral ties across various sectors.

Prime Minister Barzani highlighted Qatar’s impressive achievements in investment, prosperity, construction, energy, and economic growth, viewing them as invaluable opportunities for the Kurdistan Region to learn from and leverage.

He extended a warm invitation to Qatari investors to explore the potential of the Kurdistan Region, particularly in agriculture, tourism, and industry.

“With its stability, tranquility, and favorable geographical features, the Kurdistan Region offers an ideal environment for investment, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and industry,” Prime Minister Barzani said.

He underscored the KRG’s commitment to economic diversification and the alignment of diversified investment with the region’s strategic goals.

In his concluding remarks, Prime Minister Barzani congratulated the opening of the Qatari Consulate General and expressed best wishes for the continued advancement of relations between the Kurdistan Region and Qatar.

The upcoming economic forum in September is poised to be a pivotal event in enhancing these relations and fostering mutual economic growth.
