ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - On Thursday, May 30, 2024, Mohammed Shukri, Chairman of the Kurdistan Board of Investment, celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Zom Dairy Factory in Kurdistan, highlighting its significant contribution to reviving the local economy and increasing the income of the people.

During the anniversary event, Shukri emphasized that the Zom Factory exemplifies Prime Minister Masrour Barzani's vision to diversify income sources and encourage self-reliance among the people of Kurdistan.

He noted that the factory operates on principles articulated by President Barzani, fostering a strong work ethic within the community.

Shukri praised the factory for producing 100% natural products, which enhance the reputation of the Kurdistan Region in terms of trade and production.

He also highlighted the substantial progress in investment over the past five years, particularly in the agricultural sector.

Previously accounting for just 1.4% of the Board of Investment's portfolio, agricultural projects now represent nearly 10%, reflecting the KRG's commitment to leveraging this sector to diversify revenue sources.

At the same event, KRG Minister of Agriculture, Begard Talabani, acknowledged Prime Minister Masrour Barzani's unwavering support for her ministry.

She emphasized the need to shield Kurdish farmers from political conflicts and called for the federal government to support domestic production in Kurdistan.

Minister Talabani pointed out that the Kurdistan Region has achieved a significant milestone with the establishment and operation of various factories across different fields.

She commended the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government for its successes in promoting agriculture and local products, particularly in livestock and farming.

Talabani reiterated that Kurdish farmers should not suffer due to political issues and urged the federal government to stop neglecting the needs of Kurdish farmers and the local production sector.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on May 30 2023 inaugurated a dairy factory, Zom Factory, in the northern Erbil province’s Mergasor district in an effort to diversify the oil economy and protect domestic livestock resources.

In collaboration with international partners, the government finds solutions and best practices to take advantage of the Region’s “fertile land” and water resources, he added.

The pastoral farming projects have increased by 75% during the KRG ninth cabinet, PM Barzani said, adding more than 14,000 dairy cows have been bred for use in 84 projects.
