Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani receives new Turkish Consul General

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, welcomed the newly appointed Turkish Consul General, Erman Topçu, during a meeting on Thursday afternoon.

Kurdistan Region's President Barzani congratulated Consul General Topçu on his new appointment and expressed his full support for the success of his mission in the Kurdistan Region.

Consul General Topçu expressed his pleasure at being appointed and voiced his hopes for further promoting relations between Turkey and the Kurdistan Region during his tenure.

The discussions between Kurdistan Region's President Barzani and Consul General Topçu also covered the broader situation in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the region in general.

Erman Topçu took office on May 27, 2024, succeeding Mr. Memet Mevlut Yakut as the Turkish Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.

This meeting follows the recent visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Baghdad and Erbil in April, where he was accompanied by a high-level delegation. During this visit, 26 joint agreements and memoranda were signed between Iraq and Turkey, further strengthening bilateral relations.

The trade volume between Iraq and Turkey has reached approximately $20 billion annually.
