ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Faisal Sadiq, Director General of Tourism of the Soran Independent Administration, on Tuesday told Kurdistan24 that about 35,000 tourists visited the tourist attractions of the Soran Independent Administration during the first and second days of Eid Al-Adha.

“Choman Market has experienced a significant revival. Most motels, hotels, and tourist destinations are now fully booked, leaving no vacant spots. The influx of tourists has greatly contributed to the market's growth,” Sadiq added.

According to statistics from the Soran Tourism Directorate, a significant number of tourists from central and southern Iraq have visited the tourist attractions in the Soran Independent Administration. These attractions include the six districts of Mergasur, Khalifan, Sidakan, Rawanduz, and Choman.

Mohsin Tahseen, spokesperson of Soran General Directorate of Traffic, told Kurdistan24 that private vehicles, traffic police and special units will be deployed in all tourist attractions of Soran for all four days of Eid al-Adha.

"There are traffic police at each tourist destination. When there is a traffic jam, they go to the spot and make it easier for tourists,” Tahseen added.

Despite hurdles such as the war on ISIS and the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kurdistan Region’s tourism industry has expanded, with six million tourists visiting in 2022. In 2023, seven million tourists were recorded, equaling a 16% increase from the previous year.
