ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Italian coast guards have recovered nine more bodies from a wrecked migrant boat off the coast of Calabria, according to Italian media reports.

At least 60 people, including 26 children, are believed to have been killed in the wreck, Italian media reported.

The "Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata" (ANSA) news agency stated that the Italian coast guards recovered the bodies from the Ionian Sea on Thursday.

The boat had departed from Turkey eight days prior and capsized, leaving about 60 people, including 26 children, missing.

In recent days, the bodies of eight more migrants have been recovered, marking the second worst migrant disaster in Italy since a shipwreck in February 2023 in Catro, Calabria, which resulted in the deaths of at least 94 migrants, including 35 children.
