ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Marco Gombacci, a writer and geopolitical analyst, asserted that right-wing political parties have the capability to control Europe's borders and prevent smugglers from bringing people into the continent.

In an interview with Kurdistan 24 on Friday, Gombacci stated, "Opening the door to refugees was the old policy of the European Union, but now the situation is reversed, and the EU is closing its doors to refugees and immigrants."

He added that European countries, including Italy, have begun tightening measures to prevent the influx of refugees and curb the activities of smugglers.

Gombacci also noted that the recent success of right-wing parties in the European Parliament elections is largely attributed to the refugee issue. "The right-wing political parties have come to prevent the political and economic crisis that is facing Europe," he said.

Earlier this week, on Monday, a boat carrying migrants capsized in Italian waters, resulting in the deaths of dozens of migrants, including some Kurds, with several still missing, according to Italian media reports.

Following a directive from the Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister, an operations room was established on Wednesday with the participation of the Ministry of Interior and the Foreign Relations Office to closely monitor the situation and its consequences.

The purpose of sending an envoy to Italy, as stated in an official statement, is to coordinate with the Kurdistan Regional Government's representation in the country, engage with Italian official institutions, and visit the incident scene.

The Foreign Relations Office assured the families of the victims and the citizens of the Kurdistan Region that they would make every effort to investigate the fate of the victims. The office expressed readiness for full cooperation and coordination with the relevant parties.
