ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has officially set the date for the parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, according to an announcement made by Interior Minister Rebar Ahmad during a news conference.

"The position of the Kurdistan Regional Government and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani was that we were ready to hold elections two years ago," Ahmad stated.

"The Kurdistan Regional Government is now prepared to cooperate with the Commission to conduct the elections and ensure the process is clean and fair," he reaffirmed.

Minister Ahmad also highlighted the recent developments in the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad. He noted that during Prime Minister Masrour Barzani's two recent visits to Baghdad, significant progress had been made.

"Relations have entered another stage, and we expect some of the problems to be resolved soon, especially the issues of salaries and the budget," Ahmad said.

He added that while challenges remain concerning oil and Article 140, the Prime Minister is making concerted efforts to address these issues promptly.

On the topic of the constitution and its role in resolving disputes between the Kurdistan Region and the central Iraqi government, Ahmad emphasized its importance.

"The constitution is a document agreed upon by all Iraqi communities, and we Kurds support it because it addresses most of our rights and legitimate demands," he remarked.

Ahmad stressed that implementing the constitution would ensure that all ethnic and religious communities feel represented and protected, thereby promoting Iraq's sovereignty and stability.

"The implementation of the constitution will benefit all Iraqi provinces and the Kurdistan Region by ensuring security, stability, and equitable distribution of wealth," he concluded. "We firmly believe that if the constitution is fully implemented, it will resolve many federal government issues."

As the Kurdistan Region prepares for its upcoming parliamentary elections, the KRG's commitment to a transparent and fair process, coupled with its efforts to strengthen ties with Baghdad, marks a significant step forward in the region's political landscape.
