Zakho prepares for major developments, including largest park in Kurdistan Region

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Gohdar Shekho, the supervisor of the Zakho Independent Administration, announced the commencement of preparations for building the largest park in Zakho.

During a press conference on Thursday, Shekho outlined the administration's commitment to providing essential services before land distribution and reconstruction efforts begin.

"Before the distribution of land and reconstruction, services will be provided, and a large national park will be built," Shekho stated.

He emphasized that land will not be distributed until roads, water, and electricity are made available to ensure sustainable development. The Karni area has been prepared for land distribution, with plans to build the park on a designated plot of land.

Following Zakho's designation as an independent administration on September 20, 2021, a comprehensive campaign was launched to develop the city's infrastructure across administrative, economic, and service sectors.

This move, a significant decision by the ninth government of the Kurdistan Region, has paved the way for numerous projects and enhanced services for citizens.

Over the past three years, 286 projects have been approved in Zakho, with 218 completed and 68 currently under construction. These projects span various sectors, including:

- 9 projects in municipalities, roads, and bridges.
- 17 projects in education and higher education.
- 45 projects in surface water, groundwater, and agriculture.
- 20 projects in health.
- 33 projects in electricity.
- 16 projects in tourism and antiquities.
- 54 projects in government departments and endowments.

The ninth government has also established seven new general directorates, converted 17 centers and offices into directorates, and created 16 new directorates. Additionally, 81% of Zakho's streets have been paved.

Future strategic projects include the construction of a 60 km road, an industrial zone, and the Anko Dam. These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance development and prosperity, positively impacting the overall living conditions of Zakho's citizens.
