ERBIL (Kurdistan24)– On the somber occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Sinjar genocide on Saturday, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani issued a heartfelt message, commemorating the victims and calling for justice and normalization in the region.
President Barzani began by highlighting the enduring pain caused by the atrocities committed by ISIS terrorists against the Yezidi community a decade ago. He described the genocide as a profound wound on the Kurdish people, comparable to historical acts of violence and persecution against them.
"Our Yezidi brothers and sisters were subjected to the hatred and brutality of ISIS criminals and genocide because of their Kurdish identity and religious beliefs," President Barzani stated.
In his message, President Barzani honored the memory of the martyrs and victims of the genocide, as well as the courageous Peshmergas who sacrificed their lives to break the siege of Mount Sinjar and liberate the area from terrorist control.

"The illegal and extraordinary conditions that have been unjustly imposed on the people of the region for ten years must end," Barzani emphasized. He called for an end to the political exploitation of Sinjar's suffering and stressed the importance of allowing Yezidis to return to their homes and live in peace and tranquility.

“In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The genocide of Sinjar and the crimes committed by ISIS terrorists against our Yezidi brothers and sisters ten years ago are wounds on the body of the Kurdish people. This crime is an extension of the genocides and crimes committed against the Kurdish people throughout history. Our Yezidi brothers and sisters were subjected to the hatred and brutality of ISIS criminals and genocide because of their Kurdish identity and religious beliefs.
On the tenth anniversary of this tragedy, we honor the souls of the martyrs and victims of this crime, and we honor the heroic Peshmergas who sacrificed their lives to break the siege of Mount Sinjar, liberate Sinjar, defeat the terrorists, and avenge all the injustice and pain.
On this solemn occasion, we emphasize that we support the rights and demands of our Yezidi brothers and sisters and the residents of the Sinjar region with all our might. The agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Iraqi Government on the normalization of the situation in Sinjar must be implemented, and the illegal and extraordinary conditions that have been unjustly imposed on the people of the region for ten years must end. The parties must stop exploiting the suffering of Sinjar for political purposes, imposing themselves, and complicating the situation in Sinjar. Our Yezidi brothers and sisters must be allowed to return to their homes and live in peace and tranquility.
Masoud Barzani
