KRG approves $125 million water project for 51 villages in Barzan sub-district
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has approved the implementation of water projects for 51 villages in the Barzan sub-district, with an investment of over $125 million.
Ghafoor Ahmad Malah Suwar, the district mayor of Mergasor, told Kurdistan24 on Tuesday that the ninth cabinet's agenda emphasizes the importance of rural development in the Kurdistan Region.
"Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has fulfilled his promise to pay more attention to the towns and villages in the Kurdistan Region," he said.
The mayor highlighted that several key projects have been undertaken in the Mergasor district to enhance services for residents. Among these is the significant water project for 51 villages in the Barzan township.
Previously stalled due to a financial crisis, the project has now received the green light from the KRG, ensuring improved water access for over 38,000 people.
Currently, water is being transported to these villages by tankers. However, with 80% of the project already completed, the remaining work will soon conclude, providing a permanent solution for the villagers.
"This project will resolve the water issues once and for all," the mayor added, emphasizing its imminent completion and the resultant benefits for the local population.
