IHEC confirms preparations for upcoming Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Judge Omar Ahmad, Chairman of the Iraqi Independent High Election Commission (IHEC), confirmed on Saturday that preparations for the upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections are proceeding as planned. In an interview with Kurdistan24, Judge Ahmad emphasized that the commission has taken significant steps to ensure a smooth election process.
The IHEC has addressed challenges faced by voters with fingerprint registration issues, with Judge Ahmad highlighting the commission’s efforts to resolve these problems through visits to commission centers.
Under the Kurdistan Election Law, any candidate failing to meet the specified legal requirements will be disqualified from the election. This reinforces the commission's commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani previously announced that the general elections for the Kurdistan Region Parliament are scheduled for October 20. The IHEC has reiterated its readiness to conduct elections on the designated date.
These developments come as the Kurdistan Region prepares for a crucial electoral event that will shape the future of its parliamentary landscape.
