Iran denies plans to attack Kurdistan Region

This statement comes after a report from the Daily Telegraph claimed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had suggested targeting Israeli sites in the Kurdistan Region or Azerbaijan and notifying these countries in advance of any such strikes.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – An Iranian military commander, speaking anonymously, told Baghdad Today News on Monday that Iran has no intention of launching attacks against the Kurdistan Region, Azerbaijan, or any other neighboring country. The commander clarified that the only country Iran is focused on in this context is Israel.

This statement comes after a report from the Daily Telegraph claimed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had suggested targeting Israeli sites in the Kurdistan Region or Azerbaijan and notifying these countries in advance of any such strikes. However, the Iranian military source dismissed these claims as unfounded, asserting that the president never made such a proposal.

The source further emphasized that neither the Kurdistan Region nor Azerbaijan had any involvement in the recent assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, Chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau, in Tehran on July 31st.

Haniyeh’s death has escalated tensions, raising concerns about potential retaliation, particularly between Israel, the Palestinians, and Iran.
