ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the Economic Department of the Erbil Security Directorate confiscated 750 cartons of smuggled amoxicillin and weight loss pills that were being sold illegally.

The seized drugs included amoxicillin and various weight loss pills that lacked quality control labels.

According to Dr. Govand Rawand, head of drug supervision, these products were identified as counterfeit Iranian amoxicillin and weight loss supplements.

Dr. Rawand warned: “The danger posed by these drugs is far greater than an explosion. They can cause severe health issues, including kidney, heart, and stomach diseases. The counterfeit nature of these drugs exacerbates the risk.”

He emphasized the importance of purchasing medications from licensed pharmacies to avoid such dangers, stating, “Citizens should ensure they buy medicines from legitimate sources to protect their health.”

The seizure highlights ongoing concerns about drug safety and the need for stringent measures to prevent the distribution of counterfeit and smuggled pharmaceuticals.
