Erbil Governor Launches Construction of Kurdistan Region's Largest Pond

The Governor highlighted that with the direct support of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Erbil province has witnessed the implementation of numerous projects, with some already finished and others underway.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Saturday, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw laid the foundation stone for the Bnaslawa Pond, set to be the largest pond in the Kurdistan Region, with a total cost of approximately four billion dinars.

The project, valued at 3 billion 856 million 175 thousand dinars, is funded through the investment budget of the Erbil Irrigation Directorate and has been contracted out.

During the ceremony, Governor Khoshnaw extended his congratulations to the engineers, teams, supervisors, and the Erbil Irrigation Directorate involved in the project.

He emphasized the importance of completing this strategic project for Erbil within the designated timeframe.

The Bnaslawa Pond, the largest in the Kurdistan Region, boasts a length of 360 meters and a height of 17 meters, with the capacity to collect three million cubic meters of rainwater.

"The Banaslawa Pond will play a significant role in raising groundwater levels, combating drought, and creating irrigated land. It will also protect the area from floods, transform it into a tourist destination, and revitalize the tourism sector in the region," Governor Khoshnaw affirmed.
