KRG funds reconstructing two temples in Zakho Independent Administration

So far, 80% of the work is completed, the plan includes a large park, tens canopies, roman theater stage to accommodate life-plays.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) allocated one billion and 120 million dinars to reconstruct two historical religious sites that have temples belong to Yazidis and Christianity in Zakho Independent Administration.

One of the temples is a historical church called Mar-Gorgis. It has not only attracted the local and national residents, but people and religious tourists around the world e.g. from Europe, Australia and New Zealand to participate in a ceremony called Shader Day.

The site locates on the Euphrates River, the other shrine place belongs to Yezidi religion called temple or tomb of Aqdi Rash locates in Fishkhabour, within Zakho Independent Administration.

In addition to reconstructing of these two temples, several parks, different types of brick-built canopies and roads will be built to give a beautiful appearance to these shrine places.

So far, 80% of the work is completed, the plan includes a large park, tens canopies, roman theater stage to accommodate life-plays.

Abdulsalam Ahmad, the Plan Supervisor of the site, talked to Kurdistan 24 “The project we are working on is building a café, several bathrooms, a type of canopy, large garden in Mar-Gorgis, repairing the fountain and a Roman theater stage”  

Dilkhwaz Nizar, a practioner engineer, in the company which rebuilds and reconstructs the site, said “reconstructing of this place for the Christian brothers will be of a great importance”

With accomplishing these projects, the Zakho zone will have another gate opened to, annually religious holidays for tourists.
