Erbil celebrates Prophet Muhammad's Birthday with PM Masrour Barzani in attendance
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The city of Erbil is abuzz with celebrations today, marking the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. The Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister Masrour Barzani was among the attendees to celebrate the occasion.
This marks the second celebration of the Prophet’s birthday organized by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs in Erbil this year.
Prime Minister Barzani conveyed his warmest wishes to Muslims across Kurdistan, Iraq, and the world, emphasizing the occasion as a time to reflect on the Prophet’s life and teachings.
"I offer my warmest congratulations to all Muslims in Kurdistan, Iraq, and across the globe on the occasion of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him," Barzani stated.
The prime minister expressed his hope that the occasion would inspire joy and strengthen the culture of unity, compassion, charity, and the peaceful values that the Prophet embodied through Islam.
He further expressed his hope that this auspicious occasion would bring forth goodness, blessings, and joy, encouraging everyone to emulate the Prophet’s example in fostering tolerance, compassion, and adherence to the true principles of Islam.
Erbil's annual celebration of the Prophet's birthday is a vibrant affair, featuring special religious ceremonies and the distribution of sweets in markets and public spaces.
Muslims in the Kurdistan Region marked the annual celebration on Sept. 15, gathering for prayers, singing traditional hymns, and playing the Kurdish Daf, a revered instrument in religious and cultural ceremonies.
Festivities were also held at Erbil's historic citadel, adorned with decorations to commemorate the special day.
