ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The former US President adviser said that America should stand with the Kurds because they are friends and ally of the US.

Gary Bauer, a former adviser for the former US President Ronald Reagan, in an interview with Kurdistan24 said, it is surprising that the US is unwilling to provide good resources to the Kurds in their struggle against terrorism, and the US should provide Peshmerga forces with weapons and arms they need.

"Many of us in the United States believe the Kurdish people deserve their own nation," Bauer said.

He pointed out that the United States should continue relations with Kurds after the IS is defeated.

"I think when it comes to Kurdish independence, the right to a Kurdish state, that the United States should come down on the side of the Kurds rather than worry about what Erdogan thinks in Turkey about the situation," Bauer added.

Bauer criticized the Iran Deal and voiced his support for Kurds, saying Obama has been reaching out to former enemies (Cuba and Iran) rather than supporting allies.

"Iran has become more aggressive since the deal... Our foreign policy has been very unsatisfactory for many Americans," Bauer said.

“President Trump would be more sympathetic to the Kurdish independence than President Clinton would be,” Bauer said. "It is hard to predict these things, of course."

Kurds were outraged when Donald Trump trivialized Kurdish tragedy by defending the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, saying: "So he throws a little gas."

As a result of "the little gas" thrown as part of a two-year genocidal campaign, an estimated 5000 Kurds died in 5 minutes. Those who survived still suffer from PTSD and birth defect.

Gary Bauer is Washington Director of the CUFI Action Fund.

Previously Bauer served as President Ronald Reagan's Under Secretary of Education and Chief Domestic Policy Advisor.

After leaving the White House, Bauer worked with several family oriented advocacy organizations. Bauer serves on the board of the Emergency Committee for Israel and as President of American Values.

In 2010 he received the Defender of Israel Award from the Zionist Organization of America.
