VIDEO: ‘Iran nuclear program under stringent monitoring’

WASHINGTON, United States (Kurdistan24) – The current agreement between Iran and the United States has blocked Tehran’s nuclear weapons progress, a US nuclear expert recently stated.

Kelsey Davenport, the Director for Nonproliferation Policy at the Arms Control Association, spoke to Kurdistan24 about Iran’s nuclear program.

Davenport said the US’ pact with Iran had ensured an “incredibly stringent” monitoring of the countries weapons platform.

She added the deal had decreased Iran’s threat and would not allow them to manufacture any ballistic missile without being discovered.

“If Tehran ever chose to move towards nuclear weapons they would be quickly detected and this deal really prevents Iran from ballistic missiles from being a big threat,” she said.

Davenport added the US as well as the international community must find a “common ground with Iran on shared issues of concern.”

Moreover, she explained that if other countries began to engage in dialogue with Iran there would be less of a threat and all countries in the region would feel “more secure.”

“Continuing to work with Iran in areas where there are shared interests [will] integrate them back into the region [and] will decrease instability within the region,” she said.

“It is important that the United States continue to talk with Iran, to look for areas where they can cooperate,” Davenport concluded.
