Kurdistan diaspora march for independence referendum in Geneva, Vienna, Oslo, San Diego

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan diaspora in different parts of the world has started rallying in support of the Kurdistan Region’s independence referendum.

On Sunday, the Kurdistan diaspora organized a rally in front of the United Nation’s office in Geneva, the capital of Switzerland, to express support for the upcoming referendum.

On Sep. 25, the people of the Kurdistan Region will have the opportunity to voice their desire to remain or secede from the rest of Iraq.

On Saturday, thousands of Kurds gathered in Vienna, Oslo, and San Diego to support the Region’s historic referendum.

Lana Dizaye, one of the organizers of the rally in California’s San Diego, told Kurdistan 24 they gathered to support Kurdistan’s independence and vote “yes” in the upcoming referendum.

Dizaye noted that many diaspora Kurds from different parts of Kurdistan joined the rally.

She explained their demonstrations and activities in support of the referendum would continue, especially to help the diaspora with registration and voting.

In Vienna, the capital of Austria, hundreds of Kurds gathered in front of the office of the Austrian President to support the referendum in the Kurdistan Region.

In Oslo, the capital of Norway, many Kurds organized a rally to support the Region’s referendum.

Amir Doski, one of the organizers of the Oslo rally, told Kurdistan 24 the committee organizing the rally represented Kurdish political parties and Kurds from all parts of Kurdistan.

A letter written by the President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani addressing diaspora Kurds was read at the rally in Oslo.

President Barzani praised the gathering and the show of support for the vote, labeling the upcoming referendum a “historic achievement.”
