Shingal (K24) - Two mass graves were recently found in Shingal [Sinjar], mostly containing remains of women and children.
After the liberation of Shingal, an operation led by Kurdish Peshmerga forces and backed by U.S.-led air strikes, Peshmarga officials told K24 that one of the graves contains 78 women's bodies, and the other one contains children, women, and men between 40 to around 80.
Qasim Samir, a Peshmarga official told K24 "The graves were found near the Technical Institute in Shingal we already knew that ISIS militants were continuously killing children, men and woman in Shingal and after its liberation we found the mass graves."
Samir continued, "Women's hair and scattered bones of children and women were in the graves. All the bodies were Yazidis and killed by ISIS militants."
On, August 3, 2014,  ISIS militants captured Shingal and killed hundreds of civilians, and thousands of women were captured and taken as sexual slaves of their captors. Many Yezidis became internally displaced or became refugees and have been lobbying international agencies to recognize this atrocity as genocide.
