ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – Areas in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq are still being affected by the aftershocks of a devastating magnitude 7.3 earthquake that struck the border with Iran last week.

The Iraqi seismic monitoring center issued a statement claiming to have detected three significant aftershocks Wednesday evening and Thursday early morning. The first registered tremor was a 4.1 quake northeast of Baquba in Diyala province.

The second 4.3 quake was felt in Kalar located south of Derbandikhan in the Sulaimani province in the Kurdistan Region.

A third one was felt in Sheikh Saad, southeast of Baghdad.

The aftershocks did not cause any casualties despite the areas who witnessed the most destruction and losses during the violent Nov. 13 earthquake remain vulnerable.

The catastrophic quake rocked the border areas between the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Iranian Kurdistan (Rojhilat), killing over 300 people and injuring more than 7,000 on both sides and caused millions of dollars in property damages, notably in Kermanshah in Iran.
