Iraqi border forces said they had foiled the largest drug smuggling operation in the country after a clash with traffickers at the Iraqi border with Jordan.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iraqi border forces said they had foiled the largest drug smuggling operation in the country after a clash with traffickers at the Iraqi border with Jordan.

The drug smuggling attempt was foiled on Wednesday, and an investigation into the operation is currently underway, security forces said.

The commander of the border guards in the second district of Anbar Province, Major General Ammar al-Kubaisi, said his forces clashed with three drug smugglers who were driving in three separate vehicles on the Syrian-Jordanian triangle.

Kubaisi said one of the suspects suffered gunshot wounds during the altercation with security units before all three were eventually apprehended.
