Jordanian PM says his country ‘fully prepared’ to contribute to Iraq’s reconstruction

Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Sunday affirmed that his country is fully prepared to contribute to neighboring Iraq’s reconstruction as it recovers from a devastating three-year-long war against the Islamic State (IS).

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Sunday affirmed that his country is fully prepared to contribute to neighboring Iraq’s reconstruction as it recovers from a devastating three-year-long war against the Islamic State (IS).

Mulki’s support was expressed in Amman during a meeting with visiting Iraqi Foreign Minister, Ibrahim al-Jaafari.

Mulki stated that Jordan, “in light of its proximity to Iraq and vast experiences in various fields,” could “carry out the necessary consultations with Iraqis and other Arab stakeholders to contribute effectively in the rebuilding process,” Jordanian news agency Petra reported.

The Jordanian Premier said that following its victory over IS, Iraq has been able to regain its regional role and bounce back on its feet to begin developing its economy.

Jaafari praised the neighboring country for supporting Iraq in its fight against the jihadist group, as well as allowing Iraqi citizens to cast their votes from abroad in the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, scheduled to be held on May 12.

He welcomed Jordanian investment in Iraq, especially as security and stability return to the beleaguered country.

In a separate meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi highlighted Mulki’s commitment for Jordan to contribute to the reconstruction of Iraq.

Both ministers stressed the need to boost cooperation between Iraq and Jordan “in all fields,” Petra reported.

Jordan is a member of the US-led coalition against IS which actively participates in fighting the jihadist group in Iraq and Syria.
