Three explosions in Qamishli kill 17, wound 35

Three explosions in Qamishli this evening killed at least 17 people and wounded more than 35 people.

Qamishli, Syrian Kurdistan (K24) - Three explosions in Qamishli this evening killed at least 17 people and wounded more than 35 people.

A K24 reporter in Qamishli said that two suicide bombers and a car bomb exploded in three restaurants in Al-Wusta area of Qamishli city causing death and injury to civilians.

The three restaurants, Miami, Gibrael, and al-Qasir, were holding ceremonies on the occasion of the New Year when the explosions took place.   

Suleiman Ahmad, Deputy Head of Health Authority in Qamishli, told a K24 reporter that the security forces declared a state of emergency in the city and called the private and public hospitals to receive the injured.

"The security and health staff transported the victims to Al Salam hospital, Al Rahma hospital, and Dar Al Shifaa hospital. The national hospital also received many wounded," Ahmad added.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks, however, Islamic State is suspected to be behind the blasts.
