Syrian Kurdish Forces kill 5,875 IS militants in 2015

Kurdish forces the People's Protection Units (YPG) stated it killed 5,875 IS militants during 2015.

QAMISHLO, Syrian Kurdistan (K24) – On Thursday,  Kurdish forces the People's Protection Units (YPG) stated it killed 5,875 IS militants during 2015.

The YPG senior leadership said in a statement on Thursday, “Our units have killed a total of 5875 IS terrorists in 453 military operations during 2015.”

Redur Khalil, the spokesman of the Kurdish forces of People's Protection Units (YPG) in Syrian Kurdistan told K24 that records do not include the gains of their joint operations with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)

“Our units have conducted 453 military operations while IS carried out 94 suicide and car bomb attacks in 2015. 392 clashes and confrontations took place, and we have taken 2,177 terrorists' dead bodies and 38 captives in 2015,” the statement said.

The statement added that YPG forces, along with the female fighters the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) seized15 cars loaded with Dushka gunss, 204 military vehicles, 58 car bombs, 3 cars loaded with ammunition, 24 tanks, 26 armored vehicles, 20 motorcycles, 5 trucks, 4 bulldozers, 3 mortars, and other military equipment.

Regarding YPG casualties, the statement said that 680 YPG/J fighters lost their lives fighting IS, and said the Turkish army has targeted 22 YPG bases in northern Syria during 2015.

“Our units have liberated strategic towns and cities in northern Syrian last year, including Tal Abyad, Kobani, Tel Hamis, Tal Tamir, Suluk, Hasaka, Abdul Aziz Mountain, Ain Issa, Army base 93, and dozens of villages.”
