Iraqi Parliament to form permanent committees ahead of electing president

On Sunday, Feb. 6, al-Zamili will meet with the heads of the political factions of Parliament to discuss the formation of these permanent committees.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Hakim Abbas al-Zamili, will start the procedures for forming the permanent parliamentary committees, the parliament's media office announced on Thursday. 

On Sunday, Feb. 6, al-Zamili will meet with the heads of the political factions of Parliament to discuss the formation of these permanent committees. 

That meeting will take place a mere day before parliament's second session on Monday when it will elect the new Iraqi president.

On Monday, Jan. 31, the parliament announced the names of 25 candidates it had approved as legitimate candidates to compete for the Iraqi presidency.

On the same day, al-Zamili released his financial disclosure for the current year and received a formal letter from the Federal Integrity Commission regarding the receipt of that form.

Al-Zamili emphasized that the financial disclosure report is vital for protecting public funds and government officials from scrutiny. 

He called on all MPs to provide their financial disclosures as soon as possible, reiterating that it is a critical step for reform and combating corruption.
