ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday decreed the formal preparations for the Kurdistan Region’s sixth parliamentary elections scheduled for Oct. 1.

Prime Minister Barzani instructed the Council Ministries Presidency and all the other relevant ministries and entities to coordinate with the Kurdistan Region’s Independent High Elections and Referendum Commission (KHEC) for allocating a budget and the necessary tools for the process, according to a statement from his press office.

The decree came after President Nechirvan Barzani set the date for these elections on Thursday.

Candidates in the upcoming election will be competing for the Kurdistan Parliament’s 111-seats, 11 of which are reserved under quota for the autonomous region’s ethnic and religious components.
