Kurdish journalist arrested in Sulaimani

He is now incarcerated in a Sulaimani prison, the Kurdistan 24 reporter at the scene revealed.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan 24 writer and journalist Jamal Abdulla was arrested on Monday after appearing in a Sulaimani court without being informed of any prior arrest warrant.

According to a Kurdistan 24 reporter at the scene, the arrest warrant issued does not factually align with the complaint and warning that Abdulla was presented with at today's court hearing.

He is now incarcerated in a Sulaimani prison, the reporter at the scene revealed.

Moreover, Rahman Gharib, the head of the Metro Center for Journalists' Rights and Advocacy, condemned the arrest of Abdulla. The Center labels itself as a journalist-rights watchdog monitoring the free press situation in the Kurdistan Region.

Earlier in his career, Abdulla was also the official spokesperson for the Sixth Cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
