Top Iraqi officials visit to Kurdistan Region ‘positive, constructive,’ says President Barzani

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The recent visit of the Iraqi federal government’s officials, including Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani to the Kurdistan Region was “positive and constructive”, said President Nechirvan Barzani on Monday.

Early this week, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani visited the Kurdistan Region’s capital Erbil, where another high-level delegation of the oil ministry visited a few days after to continue discussions on the outstanding energy issues that had hampered the resumption of oil export.

In a meeting with the French Ambassador in Iraq Éric Chevalier, Barzani described the recent visits of the Iraqi Prime Minister and Oil Minister to Erbil as constructive and positive, according to a statement from the Kurdish leader’s office.

Barzani and Chevalier also discussed the resumption of the halted Kurdistan Region’s oil export through Turkey’s Ceyhan port, which had been stopped since March 25. They addressed the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad as well.

The president highlighted the Region’s commitment to resolving all the outstanding issues.

Speaking of the recent conflicts in the Middle East, they discussed efforts to “prevent further escalation and stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in Iraq,” per the statement.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday said his government had a “good understanding” with the Iraqi oil officials.

“There is a prospect for resuming the oil export,” Barzani said, stressing the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights must be protected.
