ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Given the imminent threats that the Middle East is facing now, now is not the time to avoid responsibility, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said on Monday at the Middle East Peace and Security Forum.

The premier’s remarks came on the second day of the MEPS 2023 which is held for two days in Kurdistan Region’s Duhok province.

At the beginning of his remarks, Barzani addressed the issue of climate change that is threatening the Kurdistan Region and the wider Middle East.

“Now is not the time to avoid responsibility or to wish our problems away. We need to act in a collective good, as citizens first and foremost, but with an added global dimension,” Barzani said.

"Kurdistan will not escape the effects of a warming Kuwait. Bahrain and Basra are linked not just by sea - but by a common climate destiny," the premier said.

This is a developing story...
