ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Indian Consul General in Erbil Madan Gopal on Thursday hailed the Kurdistan Region’s struggle for freedom and fighting terrorism in a meeting with Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President and former president of Iraq’s Kurdish region Masoud Barzani, according to a statement.

President Barzani received Consul General Gopal in Erbil, where they discussed enhancing bilateral ties between the two nations, among other topics, according to a statement from the Kurdish leader’s office, known as Barzani Headquarters.

Consul General Gopal expressed his country’s desire to develop relations in various fields, including human capacity building, culture, technology, and medicine, the statement said.

The envoy hailed the Kurdistan Region’s struggle for freedom and fighting terrorism, it added.

President Barzani, in turn, said the Region “highly respects” India’s culture of diversity and coexistence. He also hailed the role of India’s national figures, including Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, in supporting peace, unity, and those nations that fought tyranny.

The current diplomatic ties between Erbil and New Delhi are “very good,” Consul General Gopal told Kurdistan 24 in early October.

India established its diplomatic representation in Kurdistan Region in 2016.
