ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – At least two explosive drones struck a Peshmerga base in the Kurdistan Region's Erbil province on Saturday night, the KRG spokesperson said.

The strikes resulted in material damages only, and no casualties have been reported, Peshawa Hawramani, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Spokesperson said in a statement on Sunday.

The federal government and the group are held responsible for the "cowardly attack", Hawramani said.

"The terrorist attack, which was conducted by an outlawed force with the assistance of their collaborators, on the Peshmerga base is dangerous and provocative," the official said.

"These outlaw groups are financed and armed by the federal government and they operate and move their drones, missiles, and weapons to attack formal security institutions on the federal government's watch," he added.

While the Iraqi government has remained silent on them, it has been able to halt the Kurdistan Region's budget share, which had been used to finance these groups, Hawramani said.

"We wait for practical steps to be taken by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani in punishing these groups, and we reserve the right to respond appropriately," he said, urging "friends and partners to not remain silent and be supportive of any response we find it suitable."

Kurdistan Region in recent months has come under increasing drone strikes, mostly targeting the Coalition against ISIS forces base.

In one such attack, at least three US service members were wounded, prompting a deadly US strike on an Iranian-backed group in Babylon governorate shortly after.
