ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi Minister of Education Ibrahim Namis Al-Jubouri on Tuesday announced that his ministry had found at least 450 forged certificates held by civil servants across numerous government institutions.

The revelation came following a thorough investigation conducted by a relevant ministry’s committee in 2023, leading to the finding of 450 forged certificate documents.

The minister did not elaborate further details on the positions of those who had forged the documents.

Fraudulent certificates, including those that are claimed to be issued by universities, are a widespread issue in Iraq.

In 2021, the Ministry suspended accepting university degrees that were issued at three Lebanese universities due to suspected forgery allegations among senior government officials.

Lack of oversight and corruption are often blamed for the rampant increase in fake certificates, according to educational experts.
