ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - According to Bargasht Akrayi, a spokesperson for the Board of Investment of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has decreed the implementation of the Halabja Industrial City project, covering 400 acres of land.

The construction of Halabja Industrial City is situated more than three and a half kilometers from Halabja's center.

"The investor is prepared to initiate construction once administrative procedures are finalized," Akreyi stated.

He emphasized the significance of the area in fostering regional economic growth and job creation.

Akreyi mentioned plans to establish 8 to 12 industrial zones across the Kurdistan Region, with most already having designated land.

He highlighted that these industrial cities will also be established in provinces and independent administrations.

During the ninth cabinet, 105 industrial projects have been licensed, totaling more than $2.51 billion in capital.

Earlier, Mohammed Shukri, chairman of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Investment Board, noted that Prime Minister Masrour Barzani endorsed proposals to facilitate investor activities, as requested by the Halabja governor and Investors Union.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Feb 22 in a ceremony laid the foundation stone for the Halabja-Tuwaqut-Qalija road and the Tuwaqut Bridge.

The Prime Minister also visited the olive oil production factory in Halabja province. The factory is one of a series of Rasan projects that consists of three strategically important projects.

The projects are parts of Kurdistan Regional Government’s strategy to encourage and pay attention to local production, facilitation of trade, supporting tourism and investment in the province of Halabja. Boosting and revival of local produce, using the local workforce and stepping toward self-reliance in all sectors, is the ultimate goal of the Kurdistan Region strategy.

In his first visit to Halabja province as Prime Minister, PM Barzani on Thursday in a ceremony laid the foundation stone for the various important projects, and visited a series of projects by the Rasan Group.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) plans to build 11 industrial zones in ongoing efforts to modernize the local economy and diversify sources of income for the public.

The project would facilitate the local industry’s growth, improve access to food products, and push forward economic and agricultural development, the KRG has stated. It would also purportedly reduce reliance on imports.

Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Masrour Barzani laid the foundation stone for establishing a food processing zone in Dohuk, as part of a series of similar projects that would be implemented across the region.
