KRG issues warning for heavy rains, potential flooding

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has issued a warning about adverse weather conditions expected in the Kurdistan Region due to heavy rains and potential floods starting late tonight and continuing into Tuesday, March 19.

The KRG has alerted residents to expect heavy rain and thunderstorms, which may result in flooding in various parts of the region. Anticipated rainfall amounts for KRG cities during specific periods include:

- Erbil: 40 mm expected from 11 pm Tuesday until 6 pm Wednesday.

- Sulaimani: 40-55 mm forecasted from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday.

- Duhok: 70 mm expected from late Monday night until Tuesday night.

- Halabja: 30-35 mm expected from Tuesday until Wednesday afternoon.

- Garmian: 30-40 mm forecasted from Tuesday to Wednesday afternoon.

- Zakho: 80 mm expected from late Monday night until Tuesday night.

- Soran: 60 mm anticipated from Tuesday morning until late at night.

- Raperin: 85 mm forecasted from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday.

 

Citizens are urged to adhere to the following guidelines:

1. Avoid low-lying areas prone to water accumulation.

2. Refrain from visiting mountainous regions to minimize exposure to lightning.

3. Use main roads only when absolutely necessary and stay informed about their conditions.

4. Follow instructions from service agencies for safety and assistance.
