ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Rebwar Babkayi, head of the 10th branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), declared on Monday that the KDP's rejection of the circumstances imposed on the Kurdistan Region stems from its profound historical responsibility.

Babkayi emphasized that the decision made by the KDP’s Political Bureau represents a pivotal moment in the party's history, reflecting the will of the majority of Kurdistan Region's populace.

The KDP official articulated that the Political Bureau's decision stands against the encroachment orchestrated by what he termed as a "so-called federal court," aimed at undermining the rights of the Kurdistan Region.

Babkayi underscored the KDP's commitment to its national duty of safeguarding the rights of the Kurdistan Region and its inhabitants, denouncing any attempts to subjugate the region under the auspices of the Federal Court.

In addressing concerns regarding the party's stance, Babkayi clarified that the KDP's reservations are not rooted in apprehensions over potential electoral success, but rather a principled stance concerning the constitutional integrity and autonomy of the Kurdistan Region's institutions.

Furthermore, Babkayi issued a stern warning to detractors, asserting that attempts to challenge the resilience and determination of the KDP would prove futile.

He emphasized that the party refuses to acquiesce to the imposed status quo, urging the Federal Court to respect the boundaries of its jurisdiction and adhere to the constitutional framework governing the Kurdistan Region.

Babkayi concluded by affirming that the KDP's absence from the electoral process would render it inconsequential, reiterating the party's rejection of the situation imposed on the Kurdistan Region as a testament to its unwavering sense of historical duty.

On March 18, 2024, the KDP Political Bureau issued a statement addressing Iraq's current situation, Erbil-Baghdad relations, Kurdistan's parliamentary elections, and Federal Court decisions.

They emphasized, " Here, we hold the parties of the state administration coalition accountable for their national responsibility in implementing the constitution and all aspects of the political and administrative agreement to establish the current Iraqi government under the leadership of Mr. Mohammed Shia al-Sudani; otherwise, we cannot proceed with the political process."

The KDP Political Bureau highlighted the importance of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) not accepting unconstitutional decisions and imposed systems, stating, "Elections should not be held under an imposed system."
