PM Barzani expresses his endorsement of conducting elections in a just manner

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – During his meeting with received Italian Ambassador to Iraq Maurizio Greganti on Tuesday, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani expressed his endorsement of “conducting elections in a just and equitable manner, while simultaneously prioritizing the safeguarding of the rights of all communities in Kurdistan," according to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). 

The meeting focused on the development of bilateral relations as well as the latest developments in Iraq and the region.

The Prime Minister emphasized that moving towards a dictatorship and violating the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people will not contribute to the security, stability, and interests of Iraqi citizens.

The Italian Ambassador to Iraq reiterated his country's commitment to assisting in the maintenance of security and stability in the Kurdistan Region.

Since 2014, Italy has taken part in the US-led anti-ISIS coalition and has deployed 300 Italian soldiers to the Kurdistan Region. In addition, Italy led the NATO mission in Iraq until May 2023.

Italy is also active in the field of archeology and promotes Italian trade relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

In December 2022, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited Iraq and also met with top Kurdish leaders.
