President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani condemned the Brussels explosions on Tuesday.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani condemned the Brussels explosions on Tuesday.

Today, twin blasts hit Zaventem airport in Belgium that killed at least 31 people and injured over 80.

Following the explosions, President Barzani released a statement strongly condemning the explosions and expressed his condolences to the Belgium government and the families of the victims. He wished a speedy recovery for the injured people.

Furthermore, the statement mentioned that the Kurdistan Region completely understands the threat of the terrorists' attacks as the Region has over 1,000 kilometers (622 miles) border with the Islamic State (IS) extremists. Thus, the statement affirmed that the heart of the people of Kurdistan is with the families of the victims.

In another part of the statement, Barzani also mentioned that the terrorist attack on Brussels is a "dangerous call" for the entire world that terrorists have no borders. He called on the international community to put forth a more serious effort in combating terrorists worldwide.

The attacks come four days after Salah Abdeslam, the main fugitive in the Paris bombing, was arrested in Brussels. Belgium Prime Minister, Charles Michel, called the latest attacks "blind, violent and cowardly."

“This is a day of tragedy, a black day...I would like to call on everyone to show calmness and solidarity," Michel said.
