ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region officials in their Eid messages assured people of Kurdistan that the current crisis facing the Region will be over in a timely manner.

The Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani in a congratulatory message released on presidency website on the occasion of Eid al-Adha on Sunday thanked the  people of Kurdistan for courageously dealing with hardships.

President Barzani stated that “I am sure that the resistance and endurance of the people of Kurdistan will have good results because a bright future awaits our nation.”

Barzani congratulated people of Kurdistan, the Peshmerga forces, families of the martyrs and wounded Peshmerga forces.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in a statement said that people are celebrating Eid while the Kurdistan Region is fighting one of the biggest enemies of life and freedom and Peshmerga forces are defending Kurdistan with their blood.

Due to the war and some other reasons, the government and its employees are facing a difficult financial situation; Their understanding and endurance in this situation is highly appreciated, KRG statement read.

The statement added that the KRG understands the situation of the people and the government is putting all its efforts using all ways and channels to find a solution for this situation as soon as possible.

In January 2014, the Iraqi government, led by then-Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, cut off the Kurdistan Region's proportion of the federal budget.

The budget cut indirectly encouraged the autonomous region to sell crude oil in the world market independently.

Low oil prices have exacerbated the financial crisis in the Kurdistan Region, resulting in a three-month delay of payment for civil servants in 2015 and a two-month delay in 2016.
