PM Barzani, Iraqi Judicial Council Chairman discuss legal, constitutional issues

Both sides expressed their commitment to supporting the efforts and dialogue between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Federal Government to reach a fundamental solution to all outstanding issues.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - On Thursday, May 30, Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani arrived in Baghdad for critical discussions with Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and other high-level officials and political party leaders.

As part of his series of scheduled meetings, Prime Minister Barzani met with the Chairman of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, Fayeq Zedan, on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Both sides expressed their commitment to supporting the efforts and dialogue between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Federal Government to reach a fundamental solution to all outstanding issues.

The discussions emphasized the importance of respecting the constitutional structure of the Kurdistan Region. Both leaders highlighted the necessity of maintaining the independence of the judiciary, ensuring that court decisions do not harm the public interest or violate the legitimate rights of citizens in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

The meeting underscored the shared goal of finding sustainable solutions through constructive dialogue and cooperation, reinforcing the commitment to uphold the constitutional rights of all citizens and communities within Iraq.

Before his meeting with Fayeq Zedan, Prime Minister Barzani held discussions with several prominent figures, including Khamis al-Khanjar the leade of Sunni Sovereignty Alliance, Qais al-Khazzali, the secretary general of the Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq militia, Hadi al-Amiri, the secretary general of the Badr Organization, and Iraqi National Security Advisor Qassem al-Araji.

"I am in Baghdad today to emphasize the rights of the Kurdish people and resolve conflicts through dialogue and on the basis of the constitution," Prime Minister Masrour Barzani stated on Thursday. "Stability and a strong economy must be our priority," he added.

Before meeting with Khamis al-Khanjar, Prime Minister had held talks with Secretary-General of the Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq movement Qais al-Khazali, Hadi al-Amiri, Secretary General of al-Badr Organization and leader of the Construction Coalition, as well as Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Iraqi National Security Advisor Qassem al-Araji.

As part of his series of scheduled meetings, Prime Minister Barzani met with Khamis al-Khanjar, the leader of the Sunni Sovereignty Alliance (Al-Siyada).

The focus of their discussions was on the financial entitlements of Kurdistan Region’s civil servants, a key issue in Barzani's talks with Iraqi government officials.

As part of his series of scheduled meetings, Prime Minister Barzani met with Qais al-Khazali, Secretary-General of the Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq movement.

They exchanged views on the latest developments in Iraq, efforts to resolve issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region, and the importance of securing the rights and financial entitlements of Kurdistan’s citizens.

During his visit, Prime Minister Barzani met with Hadi al-Amiri, Secretary General of al-Badr Organization and leader of the Construction Coalition.

Earlier, Prime Minister Barzani held meetings with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Iraqi National Security Advisor Qassem al-Araji.

In a post on social media Platform (x), the Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister explained the reason for his visit to baghdad as a way "to bring renewed certainty to this important relationship."

"We must resolve our differences through dialogue and understanding to prioritize cooperation and economic growth," the post continued.

These engagements are part of Barzani's broader efforts to foster stronger relations and collaboration between Erbil and Baghdad, addressing both longstanding and emerging challenges in the process.

These meetings aim to strengthen cooperation and address various challenges facing the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as a whole.

Prime Minister Barzani’s visit underscores his commitment to addressing the financial and administrative rights of the Kurdistan Region, aiming to foster stability and economic strength through constructive dialogue with the federal government.
