PM Barzani, Hadi al-Amiri stress solving provision of KRG’s civil servants’ financial entitlements

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - On Thursday, May 30, Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani arrived in Baghdad for pivotal talks with Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, alongside several high-level officials and political party leaders.

During his visit, Prime Minister Barzani met with Hadi al-Amiri, Secretary General of al-Badr Organization and leader of the Construction Coalition.

The discussions between Barzani and al-Amiri emphasized the importance of resolving critical issues, particularly the provision of financial entitlements and salaries for the Kurdistan Region’s civil servants.

A statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government indicated that both leaders agreed to enhance coordination and cooperation between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government to address these pressing issues.

"We did not only discuss the issues with Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, but also several positive points were discussed as well," al-Amiri informed reporters post-meeting.

"The prime minister has come to strengthen the positive points and solve the problems, and we encouraged the prime minister to visit Baghdad more in the future and continue these meetings to find a solution to the problems and deepen relations between Erbil and the federal government," al-Amiri added.

Al-Amiri also pointed out a technical issue regarding the banking of salaries, despite the Federal Court's mandate obliging the Iraqi government to send the salaries.

Earlier, Prime Minister Barzani held meetings with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Iraqi National Security Advisor Qassem al-Araji.

The discussions focused on the general situation in Iraq, addressing national-level issues, and reviewing the federal government's initiatives in the fields of services and economy.

In a post on social media Platform (x), the Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister explained the reason for his visit to baghdad as a way "to bring renewed certainty to this important relationship."

"We must resolve our differences through dialogue and understanding to prioritize cooperation and economic growth," the post continued.

These engagements are part of Barzani's broader efforts to foster stronger relations and collaboration between Erbil and Baghdad, addressing both longstanding and emerging challenges in the process.
