The Agricultural Director General Star Mahmud in Halabja revealed to Kurdistan 24 "Many important projects were implemented by the investment sector, and now this silo which is very strategic plan for the farmers and the residents."
An agricultural investor Faraidun Namdar, in an interview with Kurdistan 24, declared, years ago, he had suggested the idea of building a silo in Halabja to the government. He mentioned that the clue would help to do an international marketing for the local crops as well.
It sounded Namdar had a good knowledge about the wheat, other crops and other related matters to the grain crops in Halabja. He revealed that he was the first person in Halabja who had a chiller room (Cold Storage), helping out the local farmers to store their crops till would sell out.
He stated “Regarding the crops investment, there was a time we would have 60 tons, and some other time 100 tons of wheat. We would sell out the wheat fast because there wasn’t any sectors or agencies to hand in and keep the product fresh.”
“Now with building this silo, we are able to increase the production volume to a thousand ton. The Kurdistan Region Government’s 9th Cabinet with the leadership Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the Deputy Prime Minister, who are very supportive towards the agricultural section, we think in years 2026 and 2027, the agriculture in Kurdistan Region will be a grocery aisle to the Gulf states and Erupean countries. Everyone of them would turn to the region because our food producing is very, very good” Namdar added.
