ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - On Sunday and in a significant move towards boosting the agricultural sector in Halabja, the Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani laid the foundation stone for the Halabja Silo project.

The ceremony marked a pivotal step in the region's efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and economic development.

Prime Minister Barzani warmly welcomed attendees, including the Minister of Trade from the Federal Government, expressing his happiness to be back in Halabja.

He emphasized the importance of the Halabja Silo project, which aims to serve the farmers of the region by adhering to international standards and ensuring timely implementation.

In his speech, Barzani highlighted a recent productive discussion with a delegation from the Halabja Provincial Support Council.

The delegation, composed of prominent figures from Halabja, discussed strategies to attract private sector investment and improve the region's economic infrastructure.

Barzani underscored the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) longstanding decision to designate Halabja as a province, a process that has yet to be completed by the House of Representatives and the federal government.

He called for swift action to officially recognize Halabja as a province and allocate a development budget accordingly.

Barzani acknowledged the historical sacrifices and oppression endured by Halabja, making it a symbol of Kurdish resilience. He called for unity among all political parties in the Kurdistan Region to support Halabja’s development efforts in Baghdad.

The Prime Minister outlined plans to enhance the agricultural sector, which is abundant in Halabja, through the construction of the silo.

He noted that the implementation of agricultural, industrial, and touristic projects would not only bolster economic revival and trade but also create job opportunities for the local population.

Concluding his speech, Barzani expressed hope for continued growth, development, and prosperity for Halabja and the Kurdistan Region as a whole. He reiterated the government's commitment to serving the people of Halabja.

The foundation stone laying ceremony signifies a promising future for Halabja’s agricultural sector and the broader economic landscape of the Kurdistan Region.

The Transcript of the Speech of the Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Dear audience, ladies and gentlemen,

I warmly welcome you all.

I am very happy to see you again. I would like to extend a special welcome to the Minister of Trade of the Federal Government to the beloved city of Halabja. You are very welcome.

I am pleased to have the opportunity to return to serve the beloved and patriotic people of Halabja by laying the foundation stone of the Halabja silo project. This project should be implemented on time, according to international standards, and put to the service of the farmers in this region.

Last week, a delegation from the Halabja Provincial Support Council, which included well-known personalities from Halabja province, visited us. We had a productive discussion on how to develop Halabja province and improve services and economic infrastructure in such a way that it could attract the private sector and investors from Kurdistan, Iraq, and neighboring countries. Their investments will support the economic development of Halabja province. Although the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) decided to make Halabja a province more than 10 years ago, unfortunately, the procedures for becoming a province have not been completed by the House of Representatives and the federal government. Therefore, we emphasize that these measures should be completed as soon as possible so that Halabja is officially recognized as a province at the federal level and can receive an allocated development budget. In this regard, we are in constant contact with the relevant parties of the federal government.

Halabja, like most parts of Kurdistan, has endured many sacrifices and oppression by the former Iraqi regime and has become a symbol of the oppression of the Kurdish people. We will intensify our efforts in this area, and all political parties in the Kurdistan Region must be united in this regard in Baghdad.

Dear all,

The construction of this silo is part of our plans and programs to further serve the farmers of this region and pay attention to the agricultural sector, which is very rich here. Implementing agricultural, industrial, and touristic projects in this area will support economic revival and trade and provide jobs for the people. In this regard, we will not hesitate to do whatever is necessary to serve the people of this province.

I hope that Halabja and Kurdistan in general will always continue to grow, develop, and prosper.

Thank you all.
