KDP President Barzani, Acting Speaker of Iraqi Parliament Discusse Key Issues

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Thursday, KDP President Masoud Barzani met with Mohsen al-Mandalawi, Acting Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, in Baghdad.

Kurdistan24 reporter Shivan Jabari stated that the meeting focused on the election of the new parliament speaker, the budget, the financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region, and other pressing issues.

According to his agenda, President Barzani will also meet with several political officials in Baghdad:

- Latif Rasheed, President of Iraq

- Khamis al-Khanjar, leader of the Sunni Sovereignty Alliance

- Mohammed al-Halbousi, leader of the Sunni Progress Party

- Ambassadors of Arab countries in Baghdad

- Mohammad Kazim, Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad

- Anil Bora Inan, Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad

- Asaad al-Eidani, governor of Basra

Accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Region, President Barzani arrived at Baghdad International Airport on Wednesday, where he was welcomed by Deputy Prime Ministers Muhammad Ali Tamim and Fuad Hussein, along with other Iraqi government and political officials.

On the first day of his visit, President Barzani met with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and several Iraqi political leaders. He also attended two meetings with the state administration coalition of the Iraqi government and the Coordination Framework.

President Masoud Barzani on Wednesday also met with Alina L. Romanowski, the United States Ambassador to Iraq, in Baghdad, according to a statement from Barzani Headquarters.

Later on, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani received Cui Wei, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, in Baghdad, according to a statement from Barzani Headquarters.

In addition to series of diplomatic meetings, President Barzani met with British Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hitchen in Baghdad, according to a statement from Barzani Headquarters.

He also met with France's Ambassador to Iraq, Patrick Durel, in Baghdad.

The discussions during these meetings covered local and regional political conditions, the presence of coalition forces in Iraq, oil issues, the budget, financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region, the election of the parliament speaker, and the export of oil from the Kurdistan Region.

Expressing his pleasure over his visit to Baghdad and his interactions with Iraqi political parties, President Barzani stated, "There is an opening in the Iraqi political environment that could be a good opportunity to exchange views on obstacles and resolve issues."

He emphasized the common history of the parties in their struggle against dictatorship, the building of a new Iraq, and the writing of the constitution, highlighting that the constitution serves as a strong foundation for overcoming problems and obstacles.
