ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Thirty young individuals from cities across the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) have successfully completed the UN Kurdistan Model Training and were awarded certificates in recognition of their achievement.
The project manager emphasized that each graduate is now poised to engage with and inspire the youth in their respective cities.
On Saturday, July 13, 2024, under the supervision of Rebar Ahmad, KRG Minister of Interior, and HE Hussein bin Ali Saleh al-Fadala, Consul General of Qatar in Erbil, the KRG’s Office of Initiatives and Relations signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Qatar Foundation’s MUN Kurdistan project.

Rebin Najmaddin, director of the MUN Kurdistan project, told Kurdistan 24 on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, that following the signing of the memorandum, the first training of trainers for the United Nations Model Kurdistan was held in Erbil from July 15 to 19.
MUN Kurdistan is an educational conference where students simulate a UN meeting by assuming the roles of diplomats and country representatives. The conference is designed to help participants understand diplomacy and international affairs.
Najmaddin explained that a team of trainers from the Qatar Foundation provided training to dozens of young people in the Kurdistan Region, helping them grasp the workings of the UN model as practiced in Qatar.
The newly trained individuals have since established MUN Kurdistan chapters in their cities, including Duhok, Erbil, Sulaimani, Halabja, Soran, Garmian, Zakho, and Raperin. These chapters aim to support and guide young people in these regions.
"MUN Kurdistan is an ongoing project and a bridge to develop the diplomatic capacity of Kurdish youth," Najmaddin said. "It provides an opportunity for young people to become familiar with international affairs, raise their voices in the international arena, and become part of the global dialogue."
Last year, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani initiated the idea of training local and foreign youth through the Office of Initiatives and Relations, with the aim of building the country and promoting national sentiment.
