ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) welcomed more than 200 returning displaced families from Afrin who fled their homes due to the ongoing brutal attacks on Tall Rifat and Shahba by the armed militias.
These families have twice been displaced, once when Afrin was occupied by the Turkish armed forces. They fled their homes and sought refuge in SDF-controlled areas and settled in Aleppo and its surrounding areas.
With the ensuing conflicts and the sudden takeover of the city of Aleppo and the areas nearby, the Kurdish civilians find themselves in a bizarrely familiar circumstance, fleeing another aggressor.
In a statement, the Barzani Charity Foundation highlighted the humanitarian toll of the recent conflicts in Syria and informed that “with the advent of war and clashes in Syria, thousands of families were displaced from their homes and sought relevant peace and stability in other areas.”
The charity organization also announced that its teams have welcomed more than 200 families from Afrin in the Kafr Janneh area, stating that “immediate medical and basic supports such as warm food were given to these families.”
Ever since their displacement, these families settled in SDF-controlled Shahba and Tall Rifat in 2018. They were sheltered in five camps and the villages of the Shahba region.
However, due to the re-emergence of conflicts in Syria, and the sudden and rapid control of important areas such as Aleppo by the Turkish-backed Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and its allies, Kurdish civilians were forced to leave their homes behind yet again.
